Dog Training Heaven

The Story the of Dog Clicker : B.F. Skinner

B.F. Skinner, the American psychologist who is famous for coining the principles of “operant conditioning” received a Ph.D in the year 1931. Little was it known that his theories will later pave the way for many ideas and inventions to come.

One of them that was created by Marian Kruse and Keller Breland, Skinner’s first students by the name of Dog Clicker. They came up with a technique to teach dogs to respond and obey on the pressing of the clicker. On doing the performing specific command, they are to be rewarded. This went on to revolutionize the animal training business. Together the couple founded, Animal Behavior Enterprises (ABE) where they created the first “free flying bird” shows and hosted commercial animal exhibits. They also came up with piglet races and chickens playing tic-tac-toe based on their new research.

The way the dog trainer works can best be explained with an example. Suppose you’ve to teach your dog to so spins or chase the tail trick. As soon as he instantly completes the round, you press the dog clicker and give him a reward. This practice of animal training is being widely used all over the world.
